Add Project User Fields

Prerequisites

  • If needed, create the strict or non-strict hierarchy code structure you want to add as the user defined field to the project structure at the work breakdown structure (WBS)/control account or work package level. See Create a Code Structure.

  1. Select Project Data > Projects in the Navigation Menu. The Manage Projects tab window displays.
  2. Click on the Structure [Select] dropdown in the Ribbon Menu and select the project you want from the list.
  3. Select the Fields tab.
  4. Click Add under the list of User Fields. A User Field dialog box displays.
  5. Enter a name or data entry Prompt for the field.
  6. Click on the Level dropdown. Select Account or Work Package. Select Account when you want to add the user defined field for the work breakdown structure (WBS) elements or control accounts.
  7. Click on the Type dropdown. Select Structure or Text. Selecting Text means users must enter the field content.
  8. When you select Structure for the Type, the Structure dropdown is enabled. Select the code structure for the field from the list of available structures. When a code structure is assigned as a user defined field, the code structure data provides the field dropdown selection options for users.

    Tip:

Unless designated as a global structure, structures already assigned as user fields elsewhere do not appear in the selection list. If you don't see a code structure you just created, click Refresh in the Ribbon Menu.

  9. Either uncheck the Required option or leave it checked.

    Tip:

Required means users must enter text or select a code from the assigned code structure. They cannot leave the field blank.

  10. Click OK. The assigned structure or text user field is added as a row in the list of user fields.

    Tips:

To edit the user defined field Prompt, select the field row and click Edit. Update the field Prompt and click OK.

To delete a user defined field, select the field row and click Remove.

  11. Click Save in the Ribbon Menu.
  12. Optional. Close the Manage Projects tab.
